POCO X7 Pro 5G Review: A Performance Monster With One Big Weakness
The POCO X7 Pro 5G is the kind of phone that makes you question why you’d spend flagship money.
It has a powerful Dimensity 8400-Ultra chip, a 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED display, a huge 6000mAh battery, 90W charging, and even IP68 water and dust resistance. On paper, that’s an almost ridiculous list of hardware for a mid-range phone.
But there’s a catch.
POCO has clearly prioritized performance, gaming, battery life and display quality over cameras and software polish. After looking closely at what the X7 Pro delivers, I think that’s the right strategy for some buyers — but definitely not everyone.

Design: Simple, Solid and a Little Aggressive
The POCO X7 Pro doesn’t try to look like an ultra-expensive flagship.
That’s actually a good thing.
The design is clean, the flat display looks modern, and the phone feels substantial without becoming absurdly heavy. The plastic version weighs about 195.5g, while the PU version is around 198.5g.
The yellow finish is easily the most attention-grabbing option. The black and green versions are much more understated.
One major upgrade is durability.
The X7 Pro carries an IP68 rating, something we didn’t always see on performance-focused phones at this price. Xiaomi says the device has been tested for immersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for 30 minutes under specific laboratory conditions.
Just don’t interpret IP68 as permission to take it swimming. Xiaomi itself warns against pool and beach use.
Display: One of the Best Parts
This is where the POCO X7 Pro feels considerably more expensive than it is.
You get a 6.67-inch CrystalRes AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi lists a 3200-nit peak brightness figure, along with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, 12-bit color and 1920Hz PWM dimming.
Scrolling feels fast. Animations look smooth.
And because it’s a 1.5K panel rather than ordinary 1080p, text and fine details look particularly sharp.
For watching Netflix, YouTube or just scrolling through Instagram, this is a seriously good display.
There is one small complaint: the phone’s minimum brightness has been criticized for being higher than ideal, especially in very dark environments.
It’s not a deal-breaker. But if you use your phone in bed with the lights completely off, you’ll notice it.
Performance: This Is Why You Buy It
Let’s get straight to the point.
The Dimensity 8400-Ultra is the star of the show.
It’s built on TSMC’s 4nm process and uses an all-big-core CPU design based on ARM’s Cortex-A725 architecture. Xiaomi claims an AnTuTu score of 1,704,330 in its internal testing, although benchmark results naturally vary between devices and testing conditions.
In everyday use, this class of hardware is more than enough.
Apps open quickly. Multitasking is smooth. Large games have plenty of processing power behind them.
And the combination of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage is a big deal. Those aren’t budget-grade memory and storage technologies.
Gaming Performance
This is where the X7 Pro makes the most sense.
POCO has included its WildBoost optimization system and gaming-focused software to squeeze more performance from the hardware.
But don’t buy into the idea that every game will magically run at 120fps.
Independent testing has found that some demanding titles don’t consistently maintain their highest advertised frame rates. One review, for example, found inconsistent performance in games such as BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile.
That’s normal for this price class.
The hardware is extremely powerful. The software and game optimization still decide how much of that power you actually get.
Battery Life: 6000mAh Is the Real Deal
The battery is another major reason to consider this phone.
POCO gives the X7 Pro a 6000mAh battery, which is considerably larger than what you’ll find in many mainstream phones. Xiaomi claims more than 20 hours of video playback, more than 17 hours of music playback and more than 12 hours of navigation in its internal testing.
Real-world battery life will obviously depend on brightness, mobile signal, gaming and refresh rate.
Still, the consensus from independent reviews is clear: battery life is one of the X7 Pro’s strengths.
If you’re a heavy user, this is the sort of phone you can comfortably take through a busy day without constantly hunting for a charger.
90W Charging Is Seriously Fast
A big battery is useful.
A big battery that charges quickly is even better.
The X7 Pro supports 90W HyperCharge, and Xiaomi claims a full charge in around 42 minutes under its testing conditions.
The exact charging speed can change depending on temperature, battery level, charger and region.
Also, check the box contents before buying. The charger situation varies by market. Xiaomi explicitly notes that the adapter isn’t included in certain regions.
The phone supports Xiaomi’s fast-charging protocol as well as PD compatibility, although the fastest speeds depend on using appropriate chargers and protocols.
Cameras: Good Main Camera, Weak Supporting Cast
This is where the X7 Pro starts showing its compromises.

The main sensor is perfectly capable.

Independent reviews have repeatedly pointed out that the ultra-wide produces noticeably less detailed images, particularly in difficult lighting. The selfie camera isn’t exactly a standout either.

Software: HyperOS 2 Is Feature-Rich, But Busy
The X7 Pro launched with Android 15 and Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.
There are plenty of customization options.

Bloatware remains one of the biggest weaknesses of POCO phones.
Independent reviews have found numerous pre-installed apps, duplicated Xiaomi and Google services, and advertising in some system apps.
The bad news?
You shouldn’t have to spend your first hour with a new phone cleaning it up.

Buy it if battery life matters
The 6000mAh battery is one of the biggest reasons to choose the X7 Pro.
If you hate carrying a charger everywhere, this phone makes a lot of sense.
This is probably the X7 Pro’s strongest argument.
Instead of spending more money on cameras or premium materials, POCO put a large chunk of the budget into the processor, display, storage and battery.
That’s a smart trade if those are the things you care about.
Who Should Skip It?
Photography fans should think twice.
The main camera is good, but the supporting cameras aren’t in the same league as the best camera-focused phones.
I’d also hesitate if you want a clean Android interface. HyperOS is powerful, but the amount of pre-installed software and occasional advertising can get annoying.
Final Verdict
The POCO X7 Pro 5G is a performance-first smartphone done right.
It doesn’t try to win every category. Instead, POCO has picked its priorities: speed, battery life, display quality and durability.
And it nailed those priorities.
The Dimensity 8400-Ultra is seriously fast. The 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED display is excellent. The 6000mAh battery gives you plenty of breathing room, while 90W charging means you don’t have to wait around for long. IP68 protection is the icing on the cake.
But the cameras are merely okay, especially the 8MP ultra-wide. And HyperOS still needs a serious cleanup.
If you want a gaming-focused phone with flagship-like performance without paying flagship money, the POCO X7 Pro 5G is one of the strongest choices in its class.
If your priorities are cameras and clean software, spend a little more time comparing alternatives.
