OPPO Find N5 Review: The Slim Foldable That Finally Feels Like a Normal Phone
The OPPO Find N5 is the kind of phone that makes you question why foldables ever had to be so thick.
When closed, it measures just 8.93mm thick and weighs around 229 grams. Open it up, and the phone becomes a surprisingly thin 8.12-inch tablet. Those numbers are impressive on paper. In real-world reviews, the thinness is even more noticeable because the Find N5 doesn’t feel like you’re carrying a folded tablet in your pocket.
But there is a catch.
The Find N5 is still a very expensive foldable, its camera hardware isn’t quite at the level of the best conventional flagship phones, and availability depends heavily on your market.
So, is this the foldable phone to buy?

Design: This Is the Big Story
Let’s start with the obvious.
The Find N5 is extremely thin.
At 8.93mm folded, it was launched as the world’s thinnest book-style foldable at the time. The phone is 4.21mm thick when unfolded, excluding certain protruding components such as the camera bump.
And that changes how the phone feels.
A thick foldable constantly reminds you that you’re carrying two pieces of hardware joined together. The Find N5 gets much closer to the feeling of a regular smartphone.
It is still heavier than most conventional phones, though. At 229g, you definitely know it’s in your pocket.
The camera bump also adds some thickness, so don’t expect the entire device to look like a 4.21mm sheet of glass when it’s sitting on a table.
The Hinge and Crease
The hinge is another area where OPPO has done impressive work.
The inner display has a much less obvious crease than many older foldables. You can still feel it when running your finger across the middle of the screen, but visually it’s easy to forget about when you’re watching a video or working in an app. Reviews have also highlighted how subtle the crease is in everyday use.
That’s important.
A foldable shouldn’t constantly remind you that it’s a foldable.
The downside is that thinness comes with some understandable compromises. The Find N5 is rated IPX9 for water resistance, but that rating doesn’t mean dust resistance. That’s something I’d keep in mind if you’re buying a phone at this price.
Displays: Two Excellent Screens
Open the Find N5 and you’re looking at an 8.12-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
The cover screen is a 6.62-inch AMOLED panel, also running at up to 120Hz. Both displays support 10-bit color and wide DCI-P3 coverage.
It’s large enough for split-screen work, reading, editing documents, browsing and watching movies without feeling cramped. OPPO also supports more flexible split-screen interactions through ColorOS.
And yes, 120Hz makes a difference.
Scrolling feels smooth, animations look cleaner, and the outer display feels much closer to using a normal flagship phone.
The inner panel can also reach a claimed peak brightness of 2,100 nits, while the cover display is rated up to 2,450 nits under OPPO’s specified test conditions.
Performance: Snapdragon 8 Elite Does the Heavy Lifting
The Find N5 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite.
That’s serious flagship silicon.
You get Qualcomm’s Oryon CPU architecture, an Adreno GPU and a 3nm manufacturing process. OPPO also pairs the chip with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
Apps open quickly. Multitasking is smooth. Switching between several apps on the big inner screen feels natural.
Gaming is also strong.
But there is a question worth asking: do you really need this much power in a foldable?
For most people, no.
The bigger advantage is headroom. The phone has enough performance that it should remain comfortable with demanding apps for years rather than merely feeling fast on day one.
Battery Life Is One of Its Best Features
This is where the Find N5 gets really interesting.
OPPO managed to fit a 5,600mAh silicon-carbon battery into a body this thin. That’s a huge capacity for a book-style foldable.
The battery is split into two cells, with a combined typical capacity of 5,600mAh and a rated capacity of 5,475mAh.
In practical terms, this is one of the Find N5’s strongest selling points.
Large foldable screens can destroy battery life when you’re multitasking all day. The Find N5 has enough capacity to make that less stressful.
OPPO claims up to 25 hours of continuous video streaming and up to 8.6 hours of continuous Zoom use with the inner display. Those are laboratory-style figures, so real-world results will vary.
Still, the hardware is encouraging.
And then there’s charging.
80W wired charging is excellent.
The phone also supports 50W wireless charging, which is unusually fast for a foldable. OPPO says the wired system can fully charge the battery in under 50 minutes under its specified conditions.
That’s the sort of feature you notice every day.
The downside? Fast charging can generate heat, especially when you’re using the phone heavily while charging. That’s not unique to OPPO, but it’s something to remember when pushing the battery and chipset at the same time.
Cameras: Good, But Not the Main Reason to Buy It
The camera setup is more interesting than you might expect from such a thin phone.

The telephoto uses a 70mm-equivalent focal length and supports telephoto macro photography from as close as 10cm.
That telephoto camera is particularly useful.
Portraits have a natural perspective, distant subjects are easier to frame, and macro shots can look much more interesting than what you’d get from a basic ultrawide macro mode.
The main camera is also capable of 4K video at up to 60fps, with OIS/EIS stabilization.
But there’s a compromise.
The ultrawide camera is only 8MP.
That’s the kind of specification that stands out when other premium phones are moving toward higher-resolution ultrawide sensors. If you shoot lots of landscapes or architecture, the ultrawide won’t be the Find N5’s strongest camera.
So I’d describe the camera system as very good for a foldable, but not class-leading across every focal length.
If camera quality is your number-one priority, a conventional flagship may still make more sense.
Software: The Foldable Experience Matters
Hardware alone doesn’t make a good foldable.
ColorOS 15 is built around the two-screen design, and this is where OPPO gets several things right.
The large inner display is useful for multitasking. Split-screen apps can make the Find N5 feel more like a tiny laptop or tablet when you’re working on the move. OPPO also supports features designed to connect the phone with Macs and other devices.
That’s genuinely useful.
A big foldable shouldn’t just give you a bigger screen. It needs software that knows what to do with that space.
OPPO also puts plenty of AI features into the phone.
Some will be useful.
Others are the kind of features you’ll try once and forget about.
That’s normal for modern flagships.
Durability: Thinness Comes With Questions
This is probably the section I’d pay the most attention to before spending the money.
The Find N5 is incredibly thin, but thin doesn’t automatically mean fragile.
OPPO uses its Armour Shield construction and says the device has been certified by TÜV Rheinland for folding reliability.
The IPX9 rating is also reassuring for water resistance.
But remember the missing “6” in IPX9.
There’s no dust-resistance rating in that certification. That’s a bigger deal for a foldable than it would be for some regular smartphones because the hinge is one of the most mechanically complicated parts of the device.
I would still treat it carefully.
A protective case is a good idea, particularly if you’re paying flagship-foldable money.
What I Like About the OPPO Find N5
The thin design is the biggest win.
This doesn’t feel like OPPO simply made a foldable thinner for a specification sheet. The reduced thickness changes the day-to-day experience.
I also like the battery capacity.
5,600mAh in a phone this thin is genuinely impressive, especially when paired with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The large inner display is excellent for productivity, too.
And the Snapdragon 8 Elite gives the phone enough performance that you aren’t making a major speed compromise by choosing a foldable.
What I Don’t Like
There are still some obvious weaknesses.
The ultrawide camera feels under-specced compared with the rest of the phone.
The lack of dust resistance is another concern. IPX9 protects against water, but it isn’t the same thing as having a full dust-resistance rating.
Then there’s price and availability.
At launch, the Find N5 was priced at a premium, and it wasn’t officially sold in the United States. That makes the buying decision much harder for people outside OPPO’s strongest markets.
And there’s one more issue that isn’t visible in a spec sheet: foldables are still expensive devices with more moving parts than regular phones.
That doesn’t mean the Find N5 will fail.
It means I’d think twice before buying one without a good warranty and reliable after-sales support in your country.

Should You Buy the OPPO Find N5?
If you want a book-style foldable that feels as close as possible to a normal smartphone, the Find N5 deserves serious attention.
The thin body is the headline feature, but it isn’t the only reason this phone works.
You get a large 8.12-inch display, flagship performance, a huge 5,600mAh battery, fast wired and wireless charging, and a useful telephoto camera.
The compromises are real.
The ultrawide camera isn’t spectacular. Dust resistance is a concern. The price is high. And regional availability can make buying one more complicated than buying a Samsung or Google phone.
But the Find N5 gets the fundamental foldable experience right.
It’s thin enough that the foldable form factor stops feeling like a burden.
That’s a big deal.
