OPPO Find X8 Series Review: A Flagship Lineup That Gets the Important Things Right
The lineup combines high-end cameras, MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 9400 chip, huge silicon-carbon batteries, fast charging, and OPPO’s ColorOS 15 software. The global lineup launched with the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro in late 2024, while the more ambitious Find X8 Ultra and X8s models followed in China.
One important note before we get into it: I won’t pretend I personally tested hardware I haven’t physically handled. The assessment below is based on OPPO’s published specifications, launch information, and independent reporting, with the real-world trade-offs called out rather than glossed over.
OPPO Find X8 Series at a Glance
The standard Find X8 is arguably the most interesting phone in the lineup because it doesn’t look like a compromise model.
You get a 6.59-inch display, a 50MP triple-camera setup with a 3x periscope telephoto, a 5,630mAh battery, 80W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and the Dimensity 9400—all inside a body that’s 7.85mm thick and weighs about 193 grams.
The Find X8 Pro goes bigger. It has a 6.78-inch display and a larger battery, while its camera system adds another telephoto lens for more flexible zoom photography.
And then there’s the Find X8 Ultra. This is the camera enthusiast’s model, with four 50MP rear cameras, dual periscope telephotos, a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a 6,100mAh battery. The catch? It was announced for China rather than as a global model.

Bottom line: the Find X8 is the sensible choice, the Pro is the camera-focused upgrade, and the Ultra is the enthusiast model that shows how far OPPO was willing to push the hardware.
Design: Thin, Light and Surprisingly Practical
The Find X8 gets one thing right that plenty of flagship phones get wrong: it doesn’t feel like you’re carrying a small tablet.
At 193 grams and 7.85mm thick, the standard model is relatively easy to handle for a modern flagship. Its 6.59-inch flat display also hits a useful middle ground between compact and oversized.That’s a big deal if you use your phone one-handed.
You get more screen real estate, but you also lose some of the easy handling that makes the standard X8 attractive.
Both phones use glass and aluminum construction and carry IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.
That is excellent protection on paper.
The downside is familiar: premium glass is still premium glass. Expect fingerprints, and you’ll probably want a case if you’re not comfortable gambling with an expensive camera phone.
Display: The Standard X8 Doesn’t Feel Like the Cheap One
The Find X8 has a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a 2760 × 1256 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color and support for a wide P3 color gamut. OPPO also lists up to 4,500 nits peak brightness under specific test conditions.The important part isn’t the giant peak-brightness number.
It’s the combination of a high refresh rate, sharp resolution and relatively compact size.
Scrolling should feel smooth, animations are more responsive, and the flat panel is likely to appeal to people who are tired of accidental touches from aggressively curved screens.
OPPO also added Splash Touch, designed to keep the touchscreen responsive when your fingers or display are wet. That’s the kind of feature you may ignore until you’re standing outside in the rain trying to answer a message.
Performance: Dimensity 9400 Means Serious Power
The Find X8 and Find X8 Pro are powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400, built using TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process. OPPO says the chip brings major CPU and GPU gains while also improving efficiency.This isn’t a midrange MediaTek chip hiding inside an expensive phone.
It’s a genuine flagship platform.
For everyday use, that means the X8 has plenty of headroom for demanding apps, multitasking, high-resolution photography and gaming. OPPO also pairs the processor with its Trinity Engine, which is intended to manage performance and power consumption at the system level.
The Find X8 Ultra takes a different route, using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. That makes it the performance-focused outlier in the family.

What could be better
The biggest question isn’t whether the chip is fast. It is.
The question is how aggressively OPPO’s software manages sustained performance. Peak benchmark performance is easy to advertise; maintaining performance during long gaming sessions without excessive heat is much harder.
Cameras: This Is Where the Find X8 Gets Serious
The camera system is arguably the biggest reason to consider the Find X8 series.
The standard X8 uses three 50MP rear cameras:

50MP ultrawide
50MP 3x periscope telephoto
The telephoto camera uses a large 1/1.95-inch sensor, f/2.6 aperture and optical image stabilization.
That’s an unusually capable setup for the standard model.
You’re not buying a flagship phone with a great main camera and a throwaway 2MP macro sensor sitting on the back. OPPO clearly wanted all three cameras to be useful.
Hasselblad tuning
OPPO continues its partnership with Hasselblad, using the brand’s influence primarily around color tuning, portrait photography and camera processing.The more important point is the hardware behind it.
The Find X8 Pro takes things further with two telephoto cameras, giving it more flexibility when moving between shorter and longer focal lengths. The Ultra pushes the idea even harder with four 50MP cameras and 3x and 6x periscope systems.
This is where the X8 series separates itself from many conventional flagship phones.
Zoom is a genuine strength
The Find X8 supports up to 3x optical zoom and up to 120x digital zoom.Obviously, 120x doesn’t mean you’ll get 120x optical-quality photos.At extreme zoom levels, computational processing becomes a huge part of the image.
OPPO also introduced AI Telescope Zoom, which uses computational photography to improve distant subjects at high magnifications.
That can be useful.
But I’d still treat extreme AI zoom as a fun feature rather than a replacement for a real telephoto lens.
Video Is Another Strong Point
The Find X8 series supports Dolby Vision HDR video up to 4K at 60fps across its cameras, including the front camera, according to OPPO.That’s a serious feature for creators.
It also makes the phones more interesting for people who shoot a lot of social media content rather than simply taking occasional photos.The catch is storage.
High-resolution HDR video eats through storage very quickly, so I’d seriously consider a higher-capacity configuration if you plan to use the phone as a pocket video camera.
Battery Life: One of the X8’s Best Features
This is where OPPO has made a smart hardware decision.The Find X8 packs a 5,630mAh silicon-carbon battery while keeping the phone under 8mm thick.
The Pro goes even larger, with a battery around the 5,900mAh mark, depending on the market and published specification. OPPO’s launch material highlights its unusually high capacity for a flagship of this size.Silicon-carbon battery technology is becoming one of the most interesting developments in premium smartphones because it allows manufacturers to squeeze more capacity into relatively thin devices.
And that’s exactly what I want to see.
Instead of making the phone thicker simply to add battery capacity, OPPO has used newer battery chemistry to keep the design relatively slim.
Charging: Fast, Very Fast
Both the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro support 80W wired SUPERVOOC charging and 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging.That is still excellent.
The wireless charging figure is especially useful because 50W wireless charging is considerably faster than what many major flagship competitors offer.There is one practical downside: fast charging can produce noticeable heat, particularly when the phone is working hard at the same time.
So if you’re gaming while charging, don’t expect the phone to remain ice-cold.
ColorOS 15: Smooth, Feature-Rich and Not for Everyone
The Find X8 series launched with ColorOS 15 based on Android 15.Some of these are genuinely useful.
AI Photo Remaster, for example, is aimed at cleaning up and improving existing photos. AI features can also help with tasks such as writing, editing and image manipulation.
But there’s a broader question with any Android skin this feature-heavy:
Do you actually want all of it?
Some users will love the customization and extra tools. Others will prefer something closer to stock Android.That’s a personal preference, and it is worth spending some time with ColorOS before buying.
The Find X8 Ultra Is the Camera Monster
If you’re only looking at phones officially sold globally, the standard X8 and X8 Pro are the key models.
But enthusiasts should know about the Find X8 Ultra.
It moves to a 6.82-inch display, Snapdragon 8 Elite, four 50MP rear cameras, dual periscope telephotos and a 6,100mAh battery.
The camera hardware is particularly interesting.
You get both 3x and 6x periscope telephoto cameras, which gives the Ultra a much wider useful zoom range than the standard X8.
OPPO even added a dedicated haptic shutter control with zoom functionality and a customizable shortcut button.
The problem is availability.
The X8 Ultra was announced as a China-focused device rather than a global flagship, so importing one comes with the usual headaches around software, network compatibility, warranty and regional services.
For most buyers, the global X8 Pro is the safer choice.

Buy the Find X8 if…
You want a flagship that doesn’t feel enormous.
The standard X8 gives you the same Dimensity 9400 platform, a very capable triple-camera system, a big battery and fast wired and wireless charging.It’s the model I’d pick for most people.
Buy the Find X8 Pro if…
You care more about photography and screen size.
The additional telephoto hardware makes the Pro more versatile, while the larger display and battery make it a better fit for people who spend hours watching video, gaming or editing photos.
Consider the Find X8 Ultra if…
You’re a serious camera enthusiast and you’re comfortable importing a China-market phone.
The hardware is spectacular.
But the availability issue makes it much harder to recommend as an everyday phone for global buyers.
What I Like About the OPPO Find X8 Series
1. The cameras aren’t just about megapixels.
OPPO has invested in useful focal lengths, stabilization and computational photography.
2. Battery capacity is excellent.
The silicon-carbon approach lets OPPO fit very large batteries into relatively slim phones.
3. Charging is genuinely fast.
80W wired and 50W wireless is a combination that’s hard to complain about.
4. The standard X8 has a sensible size.
The 6.59-inch display and 193-gram body make it much easier to handle than many oversized flagship phones.
5. Durability is strong.
IP68 and IP69 protection gives the series better resistance to water and dust than many premium phones.
What I Don’t Like
The software can feel busy.
ColorOS has plenty of useful tools, but people who prefer minimalist Android may find it a little much.The camera bump is still substantial.
There’s only so much physics can be negotiated when you’re putting multiple large camera sensors and periscope optics into a thin phone.
Extreme zoom needs realistic expectations.
AI-assisted 50x or 100x-plus zoom can produce impressive results in the right conditions, but it isn’t the same thing as having a physically longer optical lens.
The Ultra’s availability is frustrating.
The Find X8 Ultra has some of the most interesting hardware in the family, but its China-focused availability limits its appeal for international buyers.
And there’s a bigger timing issue now.
The Find X8 series is no longer OPPO’s newest flagship family. The Find X9 generation has since arrived, so the X8 makes the most sense when discounted or when its specific hardware fits your needs.
OPPO Find X8 Series: Final Verdict
The OPPO Find X8 series is a very strong flagship family, particularly if you care about cameras, battery life and charging speed.
The standard Find X8 is the sleeper of the lineup.
It doesn’t have the biggest screen or the most extravagant camera array, but that’s exactly why I like it. You get flagship performance, a proper telephoto camera, a huge battery and fast charging without carrying a ridiculously heavy phone.
The Find X8 Pro makes sense for photographers who want more zoom flexibility and a larger display.
And the Find X8 Ultra is the model that camera enthusiasts will obsess over—even if its China-only positioning makes it difficult to recommend broadly.
If you are shopping for an X8 today, though, price matters more than ever. That may actually be good news for buyers.
A flagship that was expensive at launch can become a very tempting phone once retailers start clearing inventory.
For camera lovers, battery-focused users and anyone tired of giant, heavy phones, the Find X8 remains a compelling option—provided you buy it at the right price.
